Peddi is one of Tollywood’s most long-awaited films and is widely expected to be a solid hit. Let’s dive into this review to see how this movie fares, starring Mega Power Star Ram Charan as the hero and Janhvi Kapoor as the heroine, and directed by Buchi Babu Sana, who proved his mettle with his debut film ‘Uppena’.

Plot:

Paiswal (Boman Irani) learns about a multi-sports athlete named Peddi (Ram Charan) during a trip to Vizianagaram. He is utterly astonished to see Peddi’s name echoing across three different sports: cricket, wrestling, and sprinting. What did he actually find out about Peddi from there? What was Peddi’s struggle with the sport and achieving victory in it? To what lengths did he go for the recognition he desired? To know whether he finally achieved his goal or not, you will have to watch this movie.

Performances:

When it comes to performances, Peddi is another decent role delivered by Mega Power Star Ram Charan. The physical strain Ram Charan endured for this film is no small feat. Especially in his preparation for wrestling and the action episodes within it, he completely molded himself for the character. Charan brought those variations to life wonderfully. Along with this, the episode where he appears as a runner is a heavy, emotion-laden role with a twist, and he manages to move the audience emotionally there as well. Furthermore, Charan’s acceptance and execution of such a challenging role is a true testament to his guts. Alongside him, there is no doubt that the most memorable character in the film is played by the versatile actor Jagapathi Babu. His performance as Appalasuri is phenomenal. The way he immersed himself in this role can be considered one of the best in Jagapathi Babu’s career. It can also be said that this is a fine Tollywood debut for Mirzapur actor Divyendu Sharma. All the other supporting actors did very well within the scope of their respective roles. Jahnvi should not have done this role as she is just treated as a glamour doll. The rest of the cast made their presence felt.

Technical Team:

The production values in the movie are decent. The overall production design, tailored for the three different sports, looks good. However, more care should have been taken regarding the visual effects. A.R. Rahman, however, elevated the film at every turn, carrying it with an excellent background score that builds great hype. His trademark bit songs are also quite good here. Rathnavelu’s cinematography is excellent. Naveen Nooli’s editing is sharp; despite the long runtime, the way he cuts the film, with some surprising transitions, without ever making it feel boring, is commendable.

Review:

The primary highlights of this film are the well-balanced emotions driven by the director and the thrilling sports backdrop scenes. Moreover, Buchi Babu’s attempt to convey the core emotional point without deviating is highly impressive. The screenplay proceeds somewhat predictably. Peddi just appears as another angle to those familiar themes. Likewise, the visual effects look noticeably like artificial graphics in many places. They should have taken much more care in designing these. Coming to director Buchi Babu Sana, setting aside whether the core point he chose is new or old, his balanced presentation is the main highlight of Peddi. He presented the three sports and the underlying emotion he wanted to convey in a very moving manner. However, it would have been even better had he driven this point home more strongly. Nevertheless, his work is impressive. Overall, Peddi is a moving, emotional sports drama.

Minus Points:
