Raakaasa is produced by Niharika Konidela and directed by debutant Manasa Sharma, starring Sangeeth Sobhan in the lead. The trio is collaborating for the second time after Oka Chinna Family Story. Marketed as a fantasy comedy thriller with an intriguing premise, the film generated decent buzz prior to release, especially after the success of its team’s previous ventures. It aims to blend humor, mystery, and supernatural elements into a commercial entertainer. Check out the film’s review here.

Story

Eera Babu, also known as Veeru, returns from the US to marry his childhood love Sukanya, only to discover she is getting married to someone else. Heartbroken, he ends up spending a drunken night near a mysterious abandoned fort in his village. What initially seems like a random incident soon pulls him into a deeper mystery surrounding the fort, its eerie past, and the forces connected to it. The narrative revolves around Veeru’s attempt to uncover the truth and confront the unknown. What is the mystery? Did Veeru chase it? What happens in the end? Forms the story of the movie.

Performances

Sangeeth Sobhan delivers a lively performance, particularly shining in comedic sequences with his natural timing and expressions. However, the role stays within his comfort zone. Nayan Sarika has a limited scope and performs adequately, while Raadhya makes a brief but passable appearance. Comedians like Getup Srinu and Vennela Kishore manage to evoke a few laughs despite over-the-top writing. Brahmaji is underutilized, whereas Tanikella Bharani, Ashish Vidyarthi, and Annapurnamma lend decent support in their roles.

Technical Aspects

Music by Anudeep Dev turns out to be a weak link, with underwhelming songs and an overly loud background score. Cinematography by Raju Edurolu is commendable, especially in the second half where the visuals inside the fort stand out. Editing by Anwar Ali keeps the runtime crisp, though the first half could have been more engaging. The production design deserves special praise for creating an effective fort setting that adds authenticity to the narrative. Backed by Pink Elephant Pictures, the film maintains decent production values. Director Manasa Sharma shows potential in handling certain sequences, particularly in the second half, but relies heavily on familiar storytelling patterns.

Review:

Raakaasa offers a few entertaining comedy moments, mainly in the second half, along with a decent performance from Sangeeth Sobhan. However, the lack of novelty in the story, a slow and less engaging first half, an underwhelming climax, and loud background score hold the film back. While it may work in parts for those looking for light comedy, the film largely feels predictable and familiar, making it an average watch at best.

Plus Points:

Comedy in second half
Emotion
Climax

Minus Points:

Boring First Half
Slow Pace
