Champions: India Lifts T20 World Cup 2026

The T20 World Cup took an interesting turn when it was decided that India would face New Zealand in the final match. India came to bat first and put a big score of 255 runs in the first innings. Everyone expected the pitch to favour the batters and New Zealand to chase the target easily. But unfortunately, NZ batters succumbed to pressure, handing Team India a huge victory.

India put a record-breaking 255 runs for five wickets against New Zealand in the T20 World Cup final, and the score is the biggest ever by India in T20 finals.

New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner won the toss in the T20 World Cup final in Ahmedabad and chose to chase, a strategy often preferred in night matches between evenly matched teams. Despite expectations that New Zealand would use an offspinner against India’s left-hand-heavy top order, they left out Cole McConchie who had impressed in the semi-final and instead included tall seamer, Jacob Duffy. Abhishek Sharma retained his spot at the top of the order despite inconsistent form, having scored only one half-century in the World Cup so far.

In the second innings, Tim Seifert is the only player who scored a half-century. Santner tried to push the score forward, but he also succumbed to pressure and departed. Jaspirt Bumrah is in top form and took 4 wickets. Axar Patel took three wickets. Indian bowlers displayed a great game of play, bringing a memorable success to the side.
