Shreyas Iyer’s unbeaten century and Ishan Kishan’s heroic knock helped India in winning the second ODI against South Africa in a comfortable fashion. The men in blue chased the target of 279 in 45.5 overs and won the match by 7 wickets. With this win, India levelled the series by 1-1.
After winning the toss, South Africa chose to bat first. Indian bowlers put on an impressive show and restricted South Africans from scoring big at any point. Reeza Hendricks (74) and Aiden Markram (79) made a responsible 128-run partnership but once it was broken, South Africa failed to make another big stand. Henrich Klassen (30) and David Miller (35) were impressive too but they couldn’t get their team past the 300 mark. Mohammed Siraj (3/38) impressed with the ball for India. By the end of 50 overs, South Africa scored 278/7.
India got an early blow while chasing this target. Opener Shikhar Dhawan got out in the sixth over. Soon after that, Shubman Gill also departed. After that, Ishan (93) and Shreyas (113) made a partnership of 161 runs for the third wicket. When he was nearing his century, Ishan was dismissed by Fortuin. Later, Sanju Samson (30) gave good support to Shreyas and made sure not to lose another wicket. In the process, Shreyas scored his second ODI century. Finally, India won the match by scoring 282/3 in 45.5 overs. The third and deciding ODI will be held on October 11 in Delhi.
