The nation is currently mourning the death of the senior politician Mulayam Singh Yadav, who remained in the centre stage of heartland politics for nearly four decades. The senior leader had a political journey of over 55 years. This morning, he passed away at Medanta Hospital, Gurgaon, after prolonged illness. After his demise, several politicians posted tribute, commending his efforts in making the lives of people better.
There was a time when he got the opportunity to become the Prime minister of the country but the situations around him, at that point in time did not help him, keeping him away from the key post.

Lalu Prasad Yadav and Sharad Yadav posted objections at that time because of which he was not elected as the PM of India back then. When Congress party got 141 seats in 1996, BJP was with 161 seats and emerged as the single largest party with highest majority.
Vajpayee formed the government but the government lasted for only 13 days. At that point in time, everyone looked at Mulayam Singh who was the potential candidate back then to become the Prime Minister of the country.
On the other hand, Mulayam was 83 and is survived by two sons, former UP CM Akhilesh Yadav and Pratik Yadav.
