Shiv Sena split between two factions led by Uddhav Thackeray and Eknath Shinde

Maharashtra politics is witnessing a new change with the ruling party undergoing a name change. With two factions claiming power over the Shiv Sena name, the Election Commission of India has already asked them to change names and pick new symbols. Now, we have come to know that The Uddhav Thackeray faction of Shiv Sena will now be known as Shiv Sena Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray and its new party symbol will be the mashaal (flaming torch).

On the other hand, the rival faction, led by the current Maharashtra Chief Minister has a different name and symbol. The rival faction led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde will be called Balasahebanchi Shiv Sena (Balasaheb’s Shiv Sena). The Shinde faction is yet to be allotted a party symbol.

Both the factions earlier asked for the gada (blunt mace) and the trishul (trident), but the ECI rejected the same saying that they were religious symbols.

The Thackeray group expressed satisfaction over the Election Commission allotting ‘Shiv Sena Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray as the name for the faction while we have to see what Eknath Shinde has to say with the new developments.

It’s going to be tough going forward, in the Maharashtra politics.
